Little Known Hiking Trails in the Poconos

The Shawnee Inn is the outdoor enthusiasts’ perfect luxurious getaway. It was built on the banks of the Delaware River and just a stone throw from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. A 70,000 acre wild and scenic landscape filled with miles of hiking trails. We are even lucky enough to have 28 miles of the Appalachian Trail just minutes from The Shawnee Inn to enjoy on a daily basis.

Whether you enjoy hiking for the exercise or for the sights.. you can find one for any taste just minutes from The Shawnee Inn. Take a hike to Childs Park to surround yourself in a waterfall haven. Walk the McDade Trail to catch a glimpse of a Bald Eagles or watch the Delaware River float by. Or, hike Cliff Park Trail to be above it all and see the highest point in New Jersey. Whatever kind of hike you enjoy, you will find one nearby.

Our Recreation Director, Brian Dye shares his favorite hike which you can hike to when you venture out on the Appalachina Trail. “My favorite section would be Mt. Minsi. This scenic trail has a secret beauty to it year round, the beautiful fall foliage, the fresh snow powder covering the rhododendron, the flowers blossoming in spring and the incredible greenery during the summer. My favorite part about this section of the trail is that there is a secret trail that goes off of the Appalachian trail and it takes you to a beautiful waterfall with a little swimming hole.
