The Shawnee
Inn is...
Compatible
What
is Wi-Fi, you ask? Wi-Fi, or Wireless Fidelity,
is freedom: it allows users to connect to
the Internet from a couch at home, a bed
in a hotel room, or a conference room at
work, all without wires. Wi-Fi uses a wireless
technology much like a cell phone, allowing
users to connect to the Internet anywhere
within the range of a wireless LAN base station.
The area encompassed in this range is known
as a "hotspot". To use these hotspots, the
user's laptop or notebook must be configured
with WiFi-Certified technology so that they
can connect with other WiFi-Certified products.
WiFi-enabled computers can send and receive
information indoors and out-anywhere within
the range of the base station. And best of
all, it is several times faster than the
fastest cable modem connection.
This
means that if a guest visiting the Inn has
a laptop that is set up for wireless connection,
they will be able to access the Internet
automatically. This new and exciting technology
will allow visitors to work on their laptops,
check their email, or even connect to their
office network without having to first find
an Internet connection.
WiFi
and wireless technology are the waves of
the future, using the most up-to-date Internet
resources. Many companies around the world
have already incorporated WiFi into their
business for the convenience of their employees
and guests. The best-known WiFi businesses
consist of networks in cafes, hotels and
airports that are marketed to business travelers
and Internet addicts who might subscribe
to a second Internet access service to get
that connectivity away from home. Some are
start-ups (i.e. Boingo Wireless, Cometa Networks,
Wayport and Wise Technologies), while others,
such as AT&T, T-Mobile USA and Starbucks,
market WiFi as an adjunct to existing services.
The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort is very pleased
to make use of this new technology and is
proud to join the host of other companies
who have done the same.
