The Engagement... Tim was about to leave for his first trip to China, the same week of our 2 year anniversary, his birthday and my sister was coming to visit. He made plans for us to have dinner at a restaurant in Lexington. All week he was giving me hints about what I might like to wear for my surprise dinner. I told someone at work that day that I wasn't getting engaged that night because I couldn't imagine Tim having gotten an engagement ring. We had just moved from Boston and we hadn't been working for more than two months. It was thundering and lightning outside and Tim kept receiving mysterious calls from someone regarding the evening. Half-way through a pleasant dinner Tim got another phone call canceling his evening plans. His plan was to have a horse carriage waiting for us after dinner. But the horses would have been spooked by the bad weather. Just before dessert Tim asked me to marry him. He pulled a beautiful ring out of his pocket. I said “OF COURSE!” We were both crying happily and he told me the ring had been his great-grandmother's, given to him by his mom. Tim's mom had the ring sized, cleaned and rush mailed to him at work that same week before he left for China. We left our dessert uneaten and went for a walk in the rain. |
