The Shawnee Inn to Host first Fall River Road Cleanup

Thursday, October 10, 2013 (Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania) – The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort is hosting its first annual Autumn River Road Clean-Up on Saturday, November 2nd from 8:00 am – 11:30 am, followed by an appreciation luncheon at The Gem and Keystone Brewpub.

For ten straight years, Shawnee has worked in partnership with PENNDOT’s Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Day. Community members along with Shawnee employees have shared the benefit of knowing their efforts have positively impacted the environment along River Road. On April 20, 2013, The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort officially adopted River Road and made a commitment to clear the scenic roadway of litter twice a year.

During each cleanup, over a hundred of bags of waste is removed from River Road restoring the traveled roadway to its scenic roots. In an effort to ensure the safety of the volunteers, township officials close a portion of River Road for the morning. By doing so, the River Road Cleanup makes for a very good family activity.

Registration is open to the resort guests and local community. The fall cleanup will be limited to the first 30 volunteers. Directly following the clean-up, an appreciation luncheon will be offered to volunteers at The Gem and Keystone Brewpub.

Registration is from 8:00 am – 8:30 am at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort – follow signs to the River Sanctuary. At registration, volunteers will be given garbage bags, gloves, a safety vest, and safety instructions. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Rob Howell, General Manager for The Shawnee Inn states, “We love to serve our community at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. So much of what we offer at Shawnee relies on the beauty of our natural setting. Clearing River Road of litter ensures that our guests and neighbors have a sustained beautiful viewscape when traveling through Shawnee on Delaware.”
