Spa Shawnee - Green Spa?
Wednesday, April 9, 2008 (Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania) — Spa Shawnee and Salon, located in the historic Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, was awarded the Save Our Planet Award in the Travel and Tourism category from the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce Tuesday April 8th, 2008.
"It was not long ago Spa Shawnee and Salon was just a whisper around the resort. This award marks a new day at the Spa, and certainly is the starting point to another successful year in partnership with Mother Nature. The whisper that once was our vision of a spa has become quite a roar. On behalf of Spa Shawnee and Salon, I would like to thank the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce for all of their support and recognition." Rob Howell, General Manager.
Spa Shawnee and Salon was recognized as a green leader for different eco-programs it initiated throughout 2007. The Spa is involved in a commercial recycling program that takes advantage of the reusable properties of office paper, cardboard, glass, jugs, plastic, aluminum and steal. Only products that are organic or all natural are used in the Spa and Salon to ensure both people and the nature are not harmed by their use. An employee carpool program was initiated to save on travel costs and gas consumption. A lot of effort and research was invested into purchasing only products that ship in 100% recyclable packaging. Finally, dimmer switches were installed in the salon and spa to conserve energy. This is the third Save Our Planet Award a Shawnee company won. The other two years Shawnee won the award were in 2005 and 2006.
Both the spa and The Shawnee Inn are kicking off the season with an event to preserve our region – the 5th annual River Road Cleanup. This event is located on River Road and will take place on Saturday, April 19th from 8:00 am to 11:30 am. A complimentary volunteer t-shirt will be given to the first 50 volunteers.
Spa Shawnee and Salon is proud of its positive eco-friendly start and is excited about this year's potential to expand upon the already initiated programs. For more information about the spa’s environmentally friendly practices or to volunteer for the River Road Cleanup please call Monica Startari at (570) 424-4050 ext. 1272 or visit www.shawneeinn.com.
