Shawnee's Year of Wellness
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 (Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania) — This New Year ushers in Shawnee's "Year of Wellness". Many different programs were initiated to improve the health and wellbeing of Shawnee's employees.
"During these tough economic times, the health of our employees is just as important as the health of our resort. They are the key to the operation of the resort so we must be as supportive as possible to help them lead a positive lifestyle." Rob Howell, Shawnee's General Manager.
Free employee exercise classes are being taught twice a week by a professional instructor. No commute or traveling is necessary for the classes as they take place on the grounds of The Shawnee Inn. The classes blend yoga, aerobics and Pilates, and are geared for individuals of all fitness and skill levels.
Shawnee will begin to offer smoking cessation courses in February through the Carbon, Monroe, Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission. The program is an eight week course and employees are encouraged to sign up. Employees pay a $25.00 sign-up fee to cover course supplies. If employees choose to take part in the smoking cessation courses, Shawnee will pay for any work time missed as a result of the program.
Elevations Health Club partnered with Shawnee offering employees gym memberships at deeply discounted rates. Individuals who take advantage of the program automatically become members in both Scotrun and Marshals Creek locations and are waived sign-up fees because of Shawnee's partnership.
Monthly seminars are scheduled to take place. Speakers will address topics on stress management, wellness, healthy diets, and exercise. The presentations are geared to educate Shawnee's staff about sustainable health and wellness practices.
Other lifestyle programs include offering healthier alternatives for employee meals*, healthy recipe contests where winners will be spotlighted in the River Room's menu, the free use of Shawnee's indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and fitness center, and company sponsorship of marathons and 5K races.
