Shawnee to Announce Grand Opening of Fishing Headquarters
Shawnee on Delaware, PA – In lieu of the
excitement t o wards trout fishing season's recent opener , the
management of the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort announced the grand
opening of their new outdoorsmen’s dream --- Shawnee
Fishing Adventures (SFA). Lead by our local fishing guide
Will Stryeski, the fishing base opened on scheduled Friday, April
21, 2006. SFA will feature retail baits & tackle shop, equipment
rentals, guided trips, group trips, kids fishing day camps, fishing
seminars and more throughout the fishing season.
Hailing from Lords Valley, PA, Will has been fishing
the Delaware River for the past 26
years and is quite knowledgeable
about angling in Pennsylvania, New
York and New Jersey. He even holds
a NY inland state record for landing
a remarkable 35-inch, 20lb 12oz Brown
Trout, of which he seldom speaks
to only the luckiest of listeners.
Will was recently promoted to manage
the fishing operations at Shawnee
and will serve as the main guide
for excursions on the Delaware. Will
has become the first state-certified fishing guide at Shawnee,
and he plans to have all of his guides certified early this season.
In contrast to the commonly used gas powered fishing boats, SFA
will be using special drift style boats as its main vessels for
fishing trips. These boats will serve to enhance the “fishing
adventure” and offer an eco-friendly alternative for enjoying
the river and the Delaware Water
Gap National Recreation Area.
Being the enthusiast that he is, Will would like
to strongly emphasize the
abundance
of fishing opportunities that exist
right here on the Delaware River. This stretch of water
is ideal for anglers who desire to fish seasonal migratory
runs of the American Shad and Striped
Bass. In addition, many resident species of fish can be found
in the Delaware year round, including Walleye, Small Mouth Bass,
Channel Catfish, and the elusive Muskellunge to mention a few.
Due to these vast opportunities, Shawnee is quite excited to
serve as the only outdoorsmen base in the area located right
on the banks of this pristine river. Will Stryeski elaborates,
although “right now, the base is scheduled to be open April
thru October, there is no reason
this facility cannot become a year-round
sportsmen’s headquarters.
The Delaware River boundary waters
provide great fishing not to mention the many lakes for ice fishing
within a very short drive.” The
local expert also shares that another
of his main goals is to educate local and out of town travelers
in all that the Delaware River has to offer. By teaching them more
about the fishing here, Will hopes that they will also become fascinated
by this regions rugged geography, wildlife, history and the overall
outdoor experience. Though
he is an admirer of the game itself,
Will stresses that “there
is much more to do at Shawnee than
play golf”.
The rates for guided drifts boat style trips are as follows:
1/4 Day (2 or less hours) Half
Day (4 hours) Full Day (8 hours) $60 1- Person $100
1- Person $150 1-Person $90 2-
