How We Met...
Our
story is quite interesting, because
it seems like we were meant to be
together. The story starts when my
dad worked for a place called Bethesda
Treatment Centers and would always
come home talking about this “nice
guy Bill” that he sometimes
worked with. After a while, Bill
disappeared. It was shortly after
Bill disappeared that my mom got
a new job at Northampton Community
College and came home one day and
asked what was “nice guy Bill’s” last
name? My mom happened to have a picture
from a staff book and showed my dad,
and he confirmed that it was “nice
guy Bill.” I ignored all of
the fuss over “nice guy Bill.” At
the time, I was in graduate school
at ESU and was concentrating on my
studies.
I started teaching an English as
Second Language class (ESL) and was
asked to go to training. It was at
this training that I first laid eyes
on “nice guy Bill.” Once
again, I thought nothing of it. Well,
it was shortly after that I was asked
to teach a class where Bill worked.
I taught the class, and we instantly
became friends. I only taught a short
time where Bill worked, but we remained
friends and started dating. We would
talk on the phone for hours upon
hours and saw each other whenever
we could. It was during one of our
conversations that we learned that
had both taken classes at ESU at
the same time. In fact, we had the
same professor for a different class
one semester but never met in the
hallway. We dated for almost a year
and then broke up. We both had issues
to work through before we could be
completely together. We were apart
for several months. However, we would
still kept in contact with each other.
I thought that we would never get
back together.
After being apart for a while, Bill
called me and asked me if I wanted
to go to Monticello because they
had just put in the casino. I agreed
and we went out. On our way back
from that date, (which I was told
it was not) we saw a shooting star
and of course I made a wish. When
we left each other that night, we
agreed that we would just be friends
and if we had time we would give
each other a call. However, that
never happened, Bill - William as
I call him - called me every day,
and we saw each other every weekend
after that.
The
Engagement...
Date:
August 10th, 2006
Our
engagement wasn’t
exactly magical but still
interesting. We had talked
about getting married for
sometime, and William would
always tease and torment me.
One weekend we decided to
go to the diamond exchange
in Wayne, New Jersey. William
told me we were going there
just to look at rings. So,
we went and we found a ring
I really liked, and he said, “OK,
we’ll
take it.” Two
weeks later we went back to
get the ring, and William
let me wear the ring out of
the store and then took it
back. He said I would have
to wait. So, I waited and
waited and waited, and finally
after being tortured every
day with “maybe
today is the day”.
Finally, late in the evening
on Mother’s
Day 2006, he walked out onto
our deck and said, “Honey,
come look at the fireflies.” I
came outside to look, and
he then got down on one knee
and said ended my torture
by asking me to marry him.
And of course, I said, “YES”.
