Remember Your First Cupcake?
2nd Annual Pocono Cupcake Challenge
--Article by Jeromy Wo, Public Relations
I still remember taking a bite out of my first cupcake ever and feeling the creamy potpourri of flavors filling my senses with joy. Those where the days. Not a care in the world, just living life from cupcake to cupcake. Though they seem long gone I am excited to relive those moments again at the First Annual Cupcake Challenge that will be held at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.
A day of culinary fun will be in store as the cup cake contest will allow contestants to show of their baking talents. This allows those like me to relive the childhood that I left behind one booth at a time. What’s better is that the United Way of Monroe County will benefit from each cupcake purchased! There is a lot of need in our community and no sweeter way to help.
The contest will be held on the Grand Lawn of the Shawnee Inn on Sunday, October 7th from 1pm-4pm. There is no cost to attend; however, $10 will cover the first 5 cupcakes purchased with each additional cupcake costing $2. If you are interested in entering the Cupcake Challenge, all entry forms need to be received by September 21st. Contact Tamara Pettite at Sales@ShawneeInn.com for more information.
A tradition is something that has been forged over many years of fellowship and repetition. Shawnee’s holiday traditions begin with Thanksgiving. Every year during thanksgiving Shawnee hosts family gatherings where we invite past guests and new friends to come and enjoy a dinner and celebrate the holiday season with us. This is something that we have cherished each and every single year and look forward to it still.
This year Shawnee’s Traditions include the Shawnee holiday market, Thanksgiving Day Dinner, Breakfast with Santa, The Holiday Tea and many others. Traditions like these have made Shawnee a part of your family.
When looking at the Shawnee holiday market I am reminded about experiences of my own. Every year during the holiday season, there is an annual farmers market that is held at the local village center in my home town of Columbia, Maryland. Farmers from all over the state come and sell their goods to the general public at very affordable prices.
What’s extra special about Shawnee’s Holiday Market is that it exclusively features local artisans. The items purchased are truly the “taste” of Shawnee. I’ve never experienced a culture of such local inclusion in my life. From Shawnee’s Markets to our Community Concerts I have learned a lot about community engagement – and I have only been working at Shawnee as an intern for a very short time.
The Shawnee Holiday Market will be held in the lobby of the renowned Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. This year we will have many handmade and homemade goods that include the simplest items such as hot cocoa homemade granola to intricate crafts like beaded jewelry, homemade teddy bears, and holiday ornaments. So please come and enjoy all that we have to offer. The Holiday Market will take place Tuesdays in December from 5pm – 8pm.
