INN EARNS COVETED AAA DIAMOND AWARD!
Shawnee On Delaware,
PA, December 2004 - For the first time, The Shawnee Inn and
Golf Resort has earned a well-recognized AAA Three Diamond
rating.
"Earning a Diamond
Rating means that a property has undergone a rigorous evaluation
process," said Michael Petrone, director, AAA Tourism
Information Development. "AAA's Diamond Rating System
is the most respected restaurant and lodging rating system
in the industry. Having a Diamond Rating tells travelers and
guests about the quality of facilities and services they can
expect."
"We are extremely
pleased to have earned this award," said Rob Howell,
Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing. "It is recognition
of the hard work that goes into creating and operating a qualified
resort establishment." Over the past year the Inn has
undergone major renovations. For starters, the accommodation
rooms received a significant amount of work and renovations,
which in the past had disqualified the Inn for the AAA rating.
Some of these major renovations included: automatic key locks,
new furnishings, wallpaper, carpeting, etc. The Inn has also
upgraded its "in-room" appliances and now conveniently
offers irons and ironing boards for each guest to use in their
room. Shawnee has a very cherished history, and to enhance
this aspect, the hallways and guest rooms now display artwork
of the momentous snapshots that demonstrate the treasures
that the Inn has entertained. "The new interior design
work that was done to the guest rooms and the hallways is
very attractive and has given the accommodations a facelift
while preserving the historic aim of the resort," says
Jonathan Kirkwood, Resort Business Developer.
In addition to these renovations,
the Inn has begun the first phases of a total reconstruction
of its ground floor. Earlier this year, the Shawnee Inn became
one of many victims of Mother Nature and Hurricane Ivan. The
usually serene and beautiful Delaware River spilled its banks
and flooded the majority of the riverfront property. The lower
level of the Inn was completely inundated and not salvageable.
Though this was a major tragedy for the hotel, the owners
decided to make the best of the unfortunate situation, making
the decision to completely redesign the floor plans since
all of the walls had to be demolished anyway. Upon completion
in the summer of 2005, the lower level will feature a brand
new Spa, conference rooms, administrative offices, golf shop
and country club facilities. The AAA Diamond award system
contains a rating of 1 - 5 diamond classification (5, being
the best). The Inn is honored about the "Three
Diamond" award and with its new additions for 2005 hopes
to become a Four or Five Diamond Resort.
AAA evaluates more than
44,000 properties are evaluated each year. Approved properties
are included in AAA's popular TourBook® travel guides,
and also have the opportunity to be included in many of the
200 retail travel guidebooks published by AAA each year. To
be considered for AAA approval and rating, lodgings and restaurants
undergo a thorough inspection by one of AAA's 65 full-time,
professional evaluators. AAA first started listing accommodation
information in its travel publications in the early 1900s.
In 1937, the first field inspectors were hired, and the current
Diamond Rating System was introduced in 1977.
As North America's largest motoring and leisure travel organization,
AAA provides more than 47 million members with travel, insurance,
financial and automotive-related services. Since its founding
in 1902, the not-for-profit, fully tax-paying AAA has been a
leader and advocate for the
safety and security of all travelers.
