FISHING
ENTHUSIAST HIRED ON THE BANKS OF THE
DELAWARE RIVER
Will
Stryeski, from Lords Valley, PA, has been fishing the Delaware
River for the past 25 years. Upon meeting him, it quickly
becomes obvious that he is very passionate about the area and is
a key resource for fishing in the Pocono’s, Pennsylvania,
New Jersey and New York. If you get
involved in a lengthier conversation with him, you might be lucky
enough to hear (bashfully) how he landed his state record 35 inch,
20lb. 12 oz. Brown Trout. Will has recently been hired as the Shawnee
River Adventures Supervisor, which involves running the daily operations
of the canoe base. He will be in charge of launching all the canoeing,
rafting, kayaking, tubing and fishing trips for those looking to
spend an enjoyable time on the river.
Being the expert that he is, Will would like to strongly emphasize
the vast fishing opportunities that exist in the Delaware River. This
stretch of water is an ideal place to fish because it serves as
a habitat for migratory seasonal runs. Such migratory fish
include Shad, Stripped Bass, Walleye, Small Mouth Bass, Channel
Cat Fish, and Trout to mention a few. Shawnee River Adventures
is the ideal place for this type of operation, as it is the only
outdoorsmen base in the area located right on the banks of the
Delaware. Will goes on to say that, “currently this
base is only open April – October, but there is no reason
why this facility could not become a year-round sportsmen’s
center. Great fishing is only a couple of steps away, and there
are plenty of lakes for ice fishing within a short drive.” The
river enthusiast also shares that his main goal is to educate out
of town travelers and locals about all the Delaware River has to
offer. By letting them know more about this river, Will hopes that
more people will soon become fascinated with the many opportunities
to experience this area’s nature, wildlife, history and outdoor
exploration. Though he is an admirer of the game, will shares
that “there is more to do at Shawnee than play golf”.
Along with his love for the outdoors and fishing, Will
has a lot of new items on the agenda for the 2005 Shawnee River
Adventure season. The base has been moved to about 30 feet
from its original location and it is still the same distance away
from the riverbanks. The hub has been expanded into a Canoe
Shop with not only equipment rentals, but also retail items, bait & tackle,
literature about the area and much more. Furthermore, new programs
will be conducted to demonstrate all the river has to offer. The
two main programs are as follows: every Monday and Wednesday
there will be “Guided Raft Trips“ and on Tuesdays,
and Thursdays – Sundays, personal “Escorted Fishing
Trips” will take place. This year’s equipment
has been revamped with the new base including new canoe paddles
and life preservers. Stop by and visit Will and his staff,
as they look forward to another fun and busy season on the river.
