Who's
at Shawnee?
Thursday, April 24, 2008
(Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania) – The Clumber Spaniel
Club of America is hosting its 2008 Specialties and International
Symposium April 28th thru May 1st at The Shawnee Inn and Golf
Resort.
Considered to be the oldest
and stockiest of the Spaniel breeds, the Clumber Spaniel dates
back to the 1700s. While the precise origin of this breed
is not known, some say its ancestors include the Alpine spaniel,
basset hound, and St. Bernard while others believe all Spaniels
originate from a group of dogs that arrived in England from
Spain. The Clumber Spaniel is the heaviest of the Spaniels
and there are approximately 5000 of them world wide.
The Clumber Spaniel Club
of America (CSCA) is the US parent club for this breed. Amongst
its responsibilities, the CSCA encourages and promotes quality
in the breeding of these dogs. It also has as a mission to
do what it can to protect and advance the interests of the
breed and to encourage participation … at dog shows,
obedience, agility and rally trials, as well as tracking and
hunt tests.
The Rescue and Placement
Committee of the Clumber Spaniel Club of America ensures the
safety and well being of any Clumber Spaniel in need. Whether
a true "rescue" from shelters and other endangering
situations or a "placement" is called for, the committee
offers whatever assistance is needed on an immediate basis.
The dog show is open to the
public and free of charge. Although this event is people friendly,
the CSCA kindly requests that all spectators refrain from
bringing any family pets including dogs. In addition, because
the Clumbers require concentration and the full attention
of their handler, parents are asked to please supervise their
children, and take advantage of this opportunity to remind
them of how to act around dogs. That is no touching without
asking the dog’s handler or owner for permission, not
putting fingers in crates, nor running or screaming.
Saturday April 26 and Sunday
the 27th, Myra Savant will be giving a seminar on canine reproduction
and neonatal care. Vet techs and local breeders are encouraged
to attend. The seminar starts at 8:30 on Saturday, the price
is $90 for both days, including lunch. All other events listed
on this press release are free and open to the public. On
Monday, April 28, the All-Breed Agility Trial will be held
at 8:00 am. Tuesday, April 29, Fun and Games will be held
at 7:30 am, Obedience and Rally Trial at 10:30 am followed
by the parades, national sweeps and Breeders' Showcase. Thursday,
May 1, Junior Handling will be held at 8:00 am, National Specialties
9:00 am. Finally, on Friday, conformation competition begins
at 8:00 am.
The Shawnee Inn and Golf
Resort is happy to welcome the Clumber Spaniel Club of America.
