LOCAL INN IS UPGRADING FOR THE POCONOS
FUTURE | CLICK HERE TO VIEW PDF FLOORPLANS
Built in 1911, the Shawnee
Inn and Golf Resort has played a significant role in the development
of golf and entertainment in the Poconos. Securing its spot
in the pages of golf history, Shawnee has been home to PGA
Championships, NCAA Championships, the first fairway mower
and countless golf legends. Also, as a base for the broadcasting
of the radio and television shows of Fred Waring, famous entertainer,
Shawnee has hosted numerous celebrities, Presidents and other
dignitaries. Residents of Shawnee have come to embrace this
history and, by making some significant changes and improvements,
the Shawnee Inn strives to continue on with this storied tradition.
To
bring you to the present, the Shawnee Inn has undergone several
major renovations in 2004. In the guest rooms we have supplied
new soft goods, replaced all the exterior windows, switched
to electronic locks, and added hair dryers, irons, ironing
boards and coffee makers. Recently completed is a picture
project, decorating each of the guest rooms and public spaces
with pictures depicting the history of Shawnee. The public
areas including the lobby, hallways and meeting spaces were
upgraded with new carpet, windows, window treatment and furnishings.
In addition, the Inn also added wireless internet connection
(WiFi) in the lobby and meeting space. These renovations have
brought about a fresh new feeling around the Inn, strongly
rooted in history, yet up to speed with the future.
Along with renovations to
the Inn, the Tillinghast Golf Academy was launched in 2004
and also added a state of the art
practice facility. Individual lessons, golf schools, clinics
and the completion of the new practice area and driving range
have all been a part of this venture. To further add to our
facilities, in August of 2005, the resort is proud to announce
the opening of The Approach Course at Shawnee. This nine-hole
will not only help you with your short game, but will also
be lighted for night play.
In
order to continue with these improvements,
2005 will bring an entire new lower
level to the Shawnee Inn and Golf
Resort. A new golf pro shop, 10,000
square feet of meeting and event
space, state-of-the-art audiovisual
capabilities, day spa, new fitness
room, new changing rooms for our indoor pool
and Jacuzzi, and business center
are all in the plans for this year’s
renovations. Also in the works
will be the addition of a brand
new automated elevator. The Inn
plans to keep its historic and
charming man-served lift from 1911 and use it as a
service elevator.
Consisting of seven new rooms,
each with their own climate control
system, the 10,000 square feet
of meeting and event space is sure
to be a modern upgrade for the
Inn. Due to the complex architecture and wiring systems of
old resorts, the new climate control system is going to be
a rarity in the area. Of these seven new rooms, one will serve
as a permanent boardroom with state-of-the-art audiovisual
equipment. To add to the corporate meeting experience the
lower level will also have a convenient Business Center with
several central “break
areas” for our meeting guests.
To complement the new
business facilities, the Shawnee
Inn will also be adding a day spa
to its amenities. The name will be
Spa Shawnee, and will have six treatment
rooms, one of which will be the wet
room. Your Shawnee Experience will
not be complete until you have escaped
into the oasis of heavenly relaxation
and personal indulgence. Spa Shawnee
can bring true stress-relief and
relaxation that everyone searches
for. The spa specialists guarantee
to pamper guests with tension-easing
massages, rejuvenating body wraps,
revitalizing scrubs, nourishing facials and much more.
Featuring a limited hair salon and
manicure/pedicure station, the spa will be perfectly convenient
for weddings and bridal party pampering. In tune with the
calming winds of the Pocono Mountains, Spa Shawnee provides
people a way to indulge their heart, mind and soul. The Inn’s
veranda and front lawn are also
ideal places for relaxation as
the Inn is set amidst the beautiful
backdrop of the Delaware Water Gap
National Recreation Area. The opening
date for this facility is slated
to open Fall 2005.
