BLUE PLANET will perform a free community concert on
Tuesday
November 28 th at 7:00 pm in the
fireplace lobby of
The Shawnee
Inn and Golf Resort.
BLUE PLANET is a multi-ethnic, multi-talented group with an extensive
musical range. The band creates a fusion of Appalachian, Mexican,
Andean, and African flavors with some touches from the Mediterranean,
Cuba, and Brazil thrown into the mix. The music is melodic and
delightful to the ear, as well as moving to the feet. Folk music
diva Holly Avila conceived of BLUE PLANET over years of varied
musical and cultural experiences which enriched her musical vision.
BLUE PLANET has garnered an enthusiastic following
for their intricate rhythms, unique sound, and high-energy
performances. This month, BLUE PLANET won the song writing
contest sponsored by Global Rhythm magazine, and is featured
on the Global Rhythm Collector's CD with their song "Querida
De Mi Aima."
ABOUT THE FREE COMMUNITY CONCERT SERIES:
Several years ago, Charlie and Virginia Kirkwood (owners of the
Shawnee Inn and the Shawnee Institute) organized this series of
concerts as a way to give back to the community. Boasting a wide
variety of musical entertainment, the concerts have become quite
popular over the years for visitors and local residents alike.
Because the Poconos is such a musically talented community, it
is not hard to find performers. Volunteering their talents, these
artists perform a wide range of music, including jazz, big band,
country, polka, Broadway, oldies, folk, gospel, acoustic, patriotic,
and more. These shows are fun for audiences of all ages. Each concert
is free of charge and open to the public. Donations to the performers
are accepted in order to show appreciation for their time and talents.
