Sounds of Polka at Shawnee
Tuesday, August 8th @ 7pm
Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania -- The Shawnee
Community Concert Series will host the Jolly Rheinlaenders,
a spectacular 15-piece polka and
German band! The show
starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August
8th.
About the performers: They are a local 15-piece brass band, playing authentic folk
music from not only Germany but also Austria and Switzerland! You
might have seen them out before since they participate locally
in a variety of marches, polkas and waltzes. The band has been
in operation for over 35 years in Monroe County. The proud group
is also happy to share that they have been part of Shawnee’s
Community concert series from the beginning of the program – since
1999. Dawson Seese, a former charter member, and Ralph Harrison
direct the band. For questions about the group, please call 570-421-4636.
About the Concerts:
Seven years ago, Charlie and Virginia Kirkwood (owners of the
Shawnee Inn and the Shawnee Institute) organized this series of
concerts as a way to give back to the community. Boasting a wide
variety of musical entertainment, the concerts have become quite
popular over the years for visitors and local residents alike.
An attendance of 300 people is not uncommon, and well over 400
gather for the Fourth of July patriotic celebration.
The series of lawn concerts typically consists of 13 shows, and,
because the Poconos is such a musically talented community, it
is not hard to find performers. Volunteering their talents, these
artists perform a wide range of music, including jazz, big band,
country, polka, Broadway, oldies, folk, gospel, acoustic, patriotic
and more. Each one as entertaining as the next, these shows are
fun for audiences of all ages. Each concert is free of charge and
donations to the performers are accepted in order to show appreciation
for their time and talents. Shows run rain or shine at the front
lawn of the Shawnee Inn and in the event of inclement weather they
are moved to the Inn’s lobby or veranda.
The concert series was made possible
by the partnership of the Shawnee Institute Ltd and The Shawnee Inn
and Golf Resort. For more information visit www.shawneeinn.com or www.shawneeinstitute.org.
