You can now golf in the dark?

Situated on the beautiful grounds of the Resort, the Tillinghast Approach Course (TAGC) offers 9 par-3 holes of varying length. These nine holes were made with the intentions of attracting the busy avid golfer that does not have five and a half hours to devote to the game. At a steady pace the course can be played in an hour and a half or less.

Steve Taggart, Director of Golf, states, “instead of going to ‘dinner and a movie’ now locals and guests can enjoy ‘dinner and golf’ in its place.” Shawnee has two delicious dining options on the premises, Sam Snead’s Tavern, which is adjacent to the course and Charlie’s Place, in the Inn. The TAGC offers the novice golfer an opportunity to build confidence and develop their game, while providing the more experienced golfer a chance to improve their short game. Each of the nine holes are modeled after the greens and bunkering from other famous Tillinghast designed golf courses including the San Francisco Golf Club, Winged Foot and Baltusrol.

Given that the approach Course compliments the existing 27-Championship Golf Course, a dress code has also been set for this facility. Golfers are required to wear knee length shorts or pants and collar shirts. Golf shoes must be soft spiked and players cannot wear jeans, denim of any color, jogging attire or running shorts. Each person is required to have their own set of clubs; rentals are available at a nominal fee.

The approach course will not have advanced tee times, it will be based on a first come, first served basis. The first tee time will be 5:30pm and the last at 9:30pm. Since it is a short course, no golf carts will be permitted so walking is necessary. The midweek rate is $12.00 per person and the weekend is $15 per person, with a 50% off for same day replay.
