Recovery of Flood Puts Spotlight on Shawnee Again
Shawnee on Delaware, PA – The Shawnee
Inn and Golf Resort is hosting an invitational event to show off
its renovations and "new" look. The date of this special
affair is Tuesday, May 30, starting at 5:00pm.
Special invitations were delivered to businesses, residents, local
officials, legislators, and media.
The devastation caused by the floods of September 2004 and April
2005 was certainly detrimental to all, and, through local and national
media coverage, the effects of these events have placed Mother
Nature's most recent wrath into perspective. Amongst the long list
of other local residents and businesses to be victimized by the
floods, the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort was forced to close for
about one week after each disaster. In retrospect of the damaged
caused, this was a remarkably minimal time to bounce back. Dealing
with the aftermath of these floods, the Shawnee Inn has made every
effort to put a positive spin on an otherwise unfortunate series
of events. Over the course of the past year, the resort has taken
this opportunity to renovate the property, in hopes to make the
Inn a better place.
The affair on May 30 th is set up as a self-guided progressive
cocktail and hors d’oeuvres party. Upon arrival, guests will
be given a list of the suggested areas to visit throughout the
Inn. Many of the locations will be accompanied by delicious hors
d’oeuvres created by resort Excutive Chef, Carl Davis, and
also some specialties from the well-known Sam Snead’s Tavern.
Themed cocktail bars and exceptional entertainment will also be
designated throughout the tour. Shawnee is honored to have Jesse
Green as one of the performers on this special evening. Mr. Green
is the recipient of the 2006 Great American Jazz Piano Competition.
The road to recovery has been successful and the resort feels
confident that the community and arriving guests will be pleased
with the improvements. As people stroll through the newly renovated
hallways, they can admire historic Shawnee artwork, new lighting,
carpeting, and wood trims. New at the resort is a lighted nine-hole
approach course, 14,000 square feet of renovated meeting rooms
and event space with state of the art technology, redesigned deluxe
accommodations, fitness center, business center, expanded golf
shop and much more. All guests will also be encouraged to drive
the new eco-friendly golf carts out to Shawnee Island in order
to take in the beauty of our rejuvenated course, which was also
affected by the floods.
