Low flush toilets were installed to lessen
our use of water.
Signage is placed in our guest rooms to
encourage reuse of towels and other linens to save water
and reduce the use of laundry detergents.
We strive to use perishable products such
as butter, ketchup, cream cheese and other items in bulk
instead of individually wrapped to lessen waste product.
We have installed new windows throughout
the resort to improve energy use and lessen our carbon
footprint.
We have gone to electric carts to lessen
pollutants and use of gasoline.
Compost-friendly cups, plates, straws
and lids to lessen impact of waste.
All of the resort’s cleaning supplies
have been replaced with ones that are 100% chemical-free.
In doing so, all of Shawnee’s fabric washers’
systems were replaced to accommodate these products as
well.
Shawnee is a member of the HP Planet Partners

The Shawnee Green Team was recently formed
and features members from each department of the resort.
The team meets monthly to brainstorm and discuss ways
in which Shawnee can improve its carbon footprint.
We are currently researching and developing
a compost facility to be located on the grounds of the
resort to better utilize our new compost friendly items.
Though still in the early research stages
and in no way a definite commitment, Shawnee is looking
into the possibility of using a geothermal energy system.
Because of the delicate balance
between nature and our resort, the staff will continue to
research and develop environmentally friendly programs.
