Wednesday, April 21, 2010 (Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania) – The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort will be hosting a Philadelphia North Spring Local Tour event of the U.S. Kid’s Golf Foundation on Saturday, May 1st.
The U.S. Kids Golf Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization established in 2001, to provide kids and their families the opportunity to participate in the game of golf through instruction and competition. Today, the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation conducts over 400 local, regional, national, and international events.
“Shawnee is a great course to host a USKG event”, said Joseph Manley, Shawnee’s Head Golf Professional. “We are all very supportive in introducing young players to golf.”
The U.S. Kids Golf Foundation offers mini-tours during the spring and summer months. The event taking place at Shawnee is the last open tournament preceding the tour championship that will take place on May 8th. Spectators are encouraged to visit Shawnee and watch the day’s tournament.
“Our program is very family-friendly”, said James Wilkes, Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Golf Leader and USKG Philadelphia North Tour Coordinator. “Older siblings, parents, and other family members are encouraged to caddy for our kids.”
Entry for USKG tournaments is open to any child meeting the age requirements. Boys and girls from ages 6 to 14 years old are encouraged to register. The tournaments are split into gender and age categories. Boys between the ages of 6 to 10 and girls between the ages of 6 to 12 play 9-hole tournaments. Girls aged 13 to 14 and boys between the ages of 11 and 14 play 18-hole tournaments.
Registration for the tournament taking place at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort is open until Midnight, Tuesday, April 27th. The cost to register a child with the USKG is $50.00. An additional $35.00 (9-hole) - $45.00 (18-hole) fee is required for each tournament in which the youth competes.
